  1. Bank tellers in the early in 2000’s actually increased after ATM’s came on the scene. Because they actually changed from Transnational tasks to more cognitive work. Roles got restructured and less overall staff was needed to run a bank. The upshot was that the cost per bank decreased, allowing more brick and mortar banks to come on the market for the same cost that it always was. Which increased market saturation. Since then banks have backed off a bit some, because they built too many brick and mortar, some because they actually were hurt by the 2008 Economic down turn and some because they’re emphasizing online banking. This back off as well as some bad press recently has only given rise to credit unions success and even more jobs.
